Adult Spanish Classes

It is never too late to learn a new language! Learn Spanish quickly through a variety of interactive activities that will lead you to a better understanding of the language. We offer a variety of classes for adults, from beginners to more advanced levels.

Spanish Horizons offers a wide variety of 8-week adult studies classes from beginners who want to start learning an exciting new language to more advanced students who to hone their conversation skills. We utilize a wide variety different learning styles and methods to ensure each class is perfectly designed to meet any student’s individual needs. Our classes are also limited to a maximum of 15 students so we can ensure every student gets the individual attention he or she needs to succeed.

Basic Fluency Classes
Spanish 1 - Beginning Conversational Skills	For those who are new to Spanish this course will build the student’s vocabulary base as well as teach them useful short phrases.  They will be able to ask and answer important informational questions about themselves such as asking for names, addresses, phone numbers.  Students will also learn to describe themselves, their friends, classroom objects, and food items.  By the end of the course, they will already be able to produce complete sentences by conjugating verbs in the present tense.
Spanish 2 - Beginning Conversational Skills	Spanish 2 builds upon student’s current Spanish skills.  They will continue to communicate in Spanish by using the present tense, telling the time, and describing the weather.  The students will learn numbers from zero to one million, family members, clothing items, and the days, months, and seasons.  In addition the  present progressive tense will be introduced as well as irregular verbs in the present tense, and starting to form verbs in the past tense.  Upon completion, students can expect to have build their knowledge and understanding of how the language works and begin to hold very simple conversations.
Spanish 3 - Beginning To Intermediate Conversational Skills	This course allows students to become more proficient with using verbs in the past tense, including irregular verbs.  We get the ball rolling with more listening and speaking skills.  They will identify possessive and demonstrative adjectives as well as learn to make comparisons of equality and inequality by using descriptive adjectives. Tener idioms and ordinal numbers will also be covered. Portions of this class will even be taught in Spanish.  Students can begin to understand regular Spanish conversations at a low level and begin to produce the language with greater sentence structure.
Spanish 4 - Intermediate Conversational Skills	Student will learn to use three very useful verbal expressions:  tener que, acabar de, and ir a.  The Future and Conditional Tenses will also be introduced, as well as simple compound verb tenses.  Direct and indirect object pronouns will also be studied and students will learning more and more by teaching in their new language.  This class will be mainly taught in the Spanish language with the students understanding at 90%-100% of everything the instructor says.  Speaking skills will be developed with much practice telling stories in the past tense.
Spanish 5 - Intermedialte To Advanced Conversational Skills	In this course, students will continue to use all tenses previously learned as well as the present perfect.  They will also begin to learn how to use reflexive verbs and form commands as well as learn in a class taught in Spanish.  Students will also continue to build fluency and telling stories, describing what they will do and have done.
Advanced Fluency Classes
Advanced Spanish - Advanced Conversational Skills/ Details Of the Language	This course is a reinforcement of everything students learning in Spanish one through five.  Fluency will continue to be built as students hold conversations in the Spanish langauge.   The students will learn about the different ways the subjunctive tense is used and will also work on advanced conversation skills and cultural proficiency in a class taught in Spanish.
Advanced Conversation - Details Of The Language	Students conversation skills are the primary focus of this course. Detailed vocabulary, discussions from short readings, "show and tell" presentations, and Spanish expressions and idioms make up the curriculum. This class is held in the Spanish language and students practice and develop their speaking skills for most of the class time.
Building Fluency - Details Of The Language	This course focuses on maintaining the subjunctive forms of the language.  Students will also work on various idiomatic expressions and selected details in the language.  In addition, they will enjoy many  conversations in Spanish as well as various projects to further develop their language skills.  This class is held in the Spanish language.

Maintaining the Language

This course is a conversational class that will meet one hour a week for eight weeks. Each week, students will be encouraged to bring in articles about a designated topic and then the teacher will guide them in conversation about that week's topic. This class will be held completely in the Spanish language. The cost is $95.

Spanish Horizons student tutoring sessions are given at a reduced rate of $35 for a 60-minute session.  You may sign up for as many tutoring sessions as you feel you want or need!
